Customer Review: Disappointed with the construction…
I recently bought this toy and set it up as specified in the instructions. I don’t hate this toy and my kids seem to enjoy both playing in the sand and water. HOWEVER, it is difficult to separate the parts so you can use the water side as a cover and difficult to put back together. As one reviewer wrote, what you find out is that the water side fills up with water when it rains and you have to drill small holes to allow it to drain out sloooowly. In conjunction the sand part also fills up with the run off from the cover, drenching the sand and making it excessively heavy to lift and drain and the sand takes time to sloooowly dry out. It’s too much hassle…I think you should wait until the designer of this toy comes up with a different design. If you still go ahead and buy it, buy it with the umbrella if you are placing this toy in an unshaded spot. Hope this review saves you money!
Customer Review: Please don’t waste your money!!!
I have never written a review before, but I HATE this toy so much that I feel compelled to tell everyone why this is such a waste of money. I have extreme difficulties putting the two parts together. At first I assumed it had to have sand in it to work, and then I thought it had to be on level ground, but it doesn’t matter, it simply doesn’t stay together any way you try it. I have given up altogether on using the water side and decided just to use the sand part. I just use the water side with the legs on it as a cover for the sand box. Well… now I have discovered that the silly thing fills up with water when it rains! By this I mean that the water table side (which I am using as a cover) fills up entirely with water and then it leaks in to the sand which makes a royal mess! Once its filled on the inside with water, the top/water side weighs a ton and I had to drill a hole in the side to drain the water out. I would have thrown the thing away immediately except I couldn’t carry it! Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones whose table snaps together perfectly and doesn’t fill up with water, but I wouldn’t bet on it! I’ve considered giving mine away, but can’t even do that without feel guilty for the poor family that gets it!

Mirei Shigemori: Modernizing the Japanese Garden

Mirei Shigemori (1896–1975), a historian trained in painting and ikebana, is increasingly admired for his contemporary Japanese garden designs. Believing the garden had fallen into cliche, Shigemori applied modernist shapes, colors and materials to create stunning avant-garde works that also celebrated the ancient Japanese gods and rituals. This book explores 10 major Shigemori works-from the checkerboard garden of Tofukuji (1939) and the “Hidden Christian” dry landscape at Zuiho-in (1961) to the masterful stone settings at Matsuo Taisha (1975)-using design/cultural analysis, garden plans and photographs.

Christian Tschumi is a landscape architect with degrees from Harvard and Kyoto.

Customer Review: Modernizing the Japanese garden
Being quite new to Japanese garden architecture I first try to learn and understand what’s done and what’s not done and the reasons behind it. This book immediately shows you why Shigemori is a so much respected innovator in his time and at the same time explains you why by referring to the classical Japanese gardens. His point of view is that a Japanese garden should fit into the time we are living in. And up until than, Japanese gardens had not changed much. Newer gardens used to be copies of the old methods instead of innovations. This work opens your mind about this and stimulates you to develop the concept of the Japanese garden into something which is more modern/timebound and more a creation of yourself. An absolute ‘mustread’ for people that like the Japanese garden.

Customer Review: Fanciful Ideas
I’m on the lookout for books that have diagrams of very small structures for the yard that might be used as guesthouses. Many books that I have looked at have buildings that are too big, or are aimed at the do-it-yourself crowd — more plans, fewer different ideas. This book has 12 drawings of small buildings that might be used as designed or slightly modified to make an overnight house for guests. Some of the gazebos presented are unusual as well. I would like to be able to find 3 or 4 more books with this focus.

I received an 1-quart bowl with a 4 place setting Fiestaware as a bonus and I just love these bowls. As a matter of fact, I had to order 11 more to have with my 12 place setting of all different colors. These bowls are great for salads, pasta, vegetables, snacks, etc. They are so easy to clean, dishwasher safe, and can be used in the microwave. I love all my fiestaware and will continue to collect them. They are definately worth it! I’m sure you will be happy with these bowls as I was, and you won’t be disappointed. Furthermore, you can have all solid colors or mix and match them as I do.

Customer Review: The Voice of Experience
Written by an experienced church planter, this book seeks to motivate and equip others to do the same. The author believes that planting new churches is the best way to evangelize the lost. He has lived this out: the two churches he founded are responsible for planting more than 200 congregations around the world. The author’s methodology is marred in places by a man-centered, “seeker sensitive” approach, and the theology is fairly thin. There is scarce mention of the glory of God, the power of the Holy Spirit, the salvation of the lost or the centrality of the Word. A cult using these same strategies would probably grow. Nevertheless, the author provides many points of practical wisdom that, used critically and grounded in a more robust theology, could prove valuable to prospective church planters
Customer Review: Simple but not Simplistic
Ralph Moore, associated with the Foursquare denomination, is one of the United States’ most prominent church planters. While his work is concentrated in Hawaii and California, he has assisted in numerous church plants throughout the world. “Starting a New Church” is a collection of Moore’s methodology, advice, and rationale. It includes anecdotal evidence of both his successes and failures. “Starting a New Church” is certainly an easy read. The book is divided into 20 chapters; and each chapter is subdivided significantly. There are no long paragraphs and the book provides frequent “stopping places” so that one does not have to purposefully block out time to read it. It lends itself well to those who pick up a book to kill time in between other appointments. Chapter topics include discussions on why to plant a church, how to begin planting, developing value and mission statements, raising funds, governmental structure, stewardship, and how your new church should go about planting a daughter church. While the book is simple in its structure and its prose, it is certainly not simplistic. Moore’s thoughts are arranged topically, and there is little purposeful connection between the various sections, but they are all sound advice and worth considering (even if one does ultimately reject it). While it took this reader a little time to “catch on to” Moore’s comparatively unstructured prose, I did come to appreciate the matter-of-fact presentation of Moore’s advice. He simply barrages the reader with “this was my issue, I considered these approaches, I decided on this one for these reasons, this is the result.” I recommend this book for those who are considering planting a church, congregational leaders who are considering planting a daughter church, and those who need to revitalize a stagnant ministry. You probably won’t adopt Moore’s approach in total, but you will appreciate his experienced voice when making your own decisions.
