Customer Review: Great format - maybe a little more oomph?
Have tried a few of the recipes now and plan to keep making more. I love the format: the weekly/seasonal grocery lists, suggested side dishes, healthy ingredients and the mix of meat and meatless dishes. Definitely a great framework for putting together a weekly repertoire (it makes me braver about thinking up menus on my own, or just augmenting what’s in this book with favorites from elsewhere).

Cons:

Based on the entrees I’ve made so far (e.g. fettucine with chickpeas, Mediterranean chicken), and what I’ve skimmed past, the recipes seem to be on the bland side. I’ve been enhancing as I go - sun-dried tomatoes here, black olives and salt there - but wish the flavors were a little more complex and powerful. Then again, that would probably make the cooking time longer. Will be interesting to see how the more “exotic” entrees turn out.

Have also noticed that there’s a fair amount of cleanup involved - i.e., this is not one-dish cooking. In some cases it seems like you could saute all the ingredients in the same pan if the order was just switched around. Certainly there are other cookbooks for one-pot cooking, but if you’re looking to streamline your nightline routine, be aware there’s work on the back end here. Could be that this is a result of the recipes originating from different kitchens: I’ve found that the Barefoot Contessa recipes, for instance, tend to be pretty efficient, and I’m guessing that’s because they were developed under commercial conditions.

Lastly, I think it would be great if the seasonal menu pages as well as the grocery lists (”Fall,” “Winter,” and so on) had page numbers for each recipe, so that one doesn’t have to flip thru the index in back for each dish.

I enjoy making meals out of this book, however I must admit, they aren’t as kid friendly as they say. Yes, the recipes call for easy to find ingredients (except for the one with mango chutney, can’t find that in Mitchell, SD!), and I don’t consider my kids to be the pickiest eaters (I know pickier!), but I couldn’t get my 5 year old to eat more than half of the recipes I tried. My husband and I loved them, but not the kids. Aside from that, the book did help me make grocery lists with ease and I loved how fast the meals came together.

This pan does what it promises, even for those of us with finicky ovens. Cookies and biscuits no longer come out scorched on the bottom. Instead, tops and bottoms are both a delicious golden brown. This pan won’t save you from overbaking, but it will make a real difference if you time the recipe properly.

This flashlight is as advertised. Two levels of brightness are convenient and the high level is quite adequate. I purchased this because of a series of reviews that indicated that this item would retain brighness better over its lifetime. I’m hoping for that, but won’t know for some months/years yet. Case is attractive, nice flat shape that doesn’t roll of tables, etc. And the price was right. I’m pleased with it.

Customer Review: Great Right out of the Box
I received these shoes 10 days before my first half marathon. There was no time for break in. My Asics were worn out and causing knee pain. First run 6 miles-no problem. Second run 10 miles- it hurt, but it wasn’t the shoes. Third run 3 mile taper before the race- felt like I was running on air. The BIG RACE 13 miles- whoa baby it was hard….but the shoes were awesome. Very little knee pain and still felt cushy during grueling mile 12. These shoes were much more cushioned that my Nimbus IV’s right out of the box. The New Balance are also roomier in the toes. I was starting to get a calous from the Asics. Expensive but highly reccomended.

Customer Review: good rip saw blade
This blade does a good job for general ripping, and performs quite well when crosscutting also. The finish is not perfect but the ripped edge can be used for gluing. The narrow kerf conserves wood and does a good job when resawing (my main reason for using a narrow blade).
Customer Review: What a difference compared to a cheap blade
I can’t tell you whether this blade is better than some of the other brands (Forrest, CMT etc.), but it is night and day compared to the cheap blades that come with the table saw, or you buy at the home center. This blade is SHARP. It rips through wood with easy, there is no binding or hesitation, and even my cheap direct-drive underpowered table saw is able to make a decent cut.

Entertaining in the short term, but NO DURABILITY! The UFO flew once and then flew no more. I suppose it can still be utilized as a hand-held fan of sorts, but that was not its intended function. The battery will not charge as specified in the manual, if you can discern the meaning of the instructions at all. It seems that a rudimentary attempt was made to translate them into English. Perhaps they read more coherently in Chinese. While the UFO itself is of no entertainment after the first flight, the instruction manual may provide years of enjoyment! Save your Money!

The Pro Survivor is somewhat better than the survivor because it offers extra shock resistance; more water resistance; no fail switches and an extra large display. The XL display was important for me. The watch is simple. It measures minutes, seconds and 1/100 seconds up to 40 minutes, then it only measures hours, minutes and seconds. The time and date features were not important to me. It has a five year warranty without proof of purchase.

I have always enjoyed Planters nuts. Like John, I live in a wooded area, the hills of WV. I also feed animals: squirrels, birds, rabbits, foxes, coons, ground squirrels, stray cats & dogs, deer, occasionally, a neighbors horse gets loose, & only God knows what else is lurking in those woods. I teach my children to take care of animals. They have a purpose just as humans do. I also teach them that if a stray cat or dog comes around, it is our responsibility to take care of it. We are the only ones on this hill that will. Everyone else runs them off, throws things at them, shoots BB’s or bullets at them. Besides, I live at the top. By the time they get here, they are in bad shape, sometimes wounded. I could never sit in my house & eat knowing a starving animal was right outside. I have given the squirrels nuts before. Deer bring their little ones around to show them where the food is. They of course hide in the woods nearby. One time, a baby deer was alone at the usual food spot, there wasn’t any corn. He kept looking up at the house. I searched for something to give him. I found something. However, I came too close to him & he ran away. Later, I realized that was stupid since I knew the mother was close. I was surprised she didn’t come after me. A fox family was living here when I moved in. The fox was very brave, walking around my yard in daylight. I figured there was a pregnant fox. I was right. They left after the babies were big enough to walk a distance. However, the babies came back about a year later. I taught them that humans could see them in the dark with a flashlight. I knew they were going up higher in the mountains & I knew hunters would be there. I also know that fox are not used for food, but as a trophy. I didn’t think they should give their life to hang on a wall. So, if John is crazy, so am I. Maybe even more so.

Maathai is the first African woman and the first environmentalist to win the Nobel Peace Prize-in 2004. Masthai’s life is inspiring-from her humble beginnings as a child laborer on the plantation of a white English colonial farm with her family, to her early education in the primitive Ihithe primary school at age 8, to further education at St. Cecilia’s at the Mathari Catholic Mission, to college in the United States. She taught at the University in Kenya, and was active in the National Council of Women in Kenya (NCWK) for many years. Many failures are scattered throughout her life: she was divorced by her husband; she lost her job at the University when she tried to run for office, and she was arrested many times for her work in promoting democracy in Kenya. One of the projects she worked on was to stop the construction of a huge 60-story skyscraper in the middle of Uhuru Park in Nairobi; another was to obtain the release of over 50 men who had been imprisoned for agitating for a multi-party system. She held a hunger strike with their mothers, in Uhuru Park, and then they all retreated to a nearby Anglican cathedral to continue to protest after being routed from the park by armed police (Along with many others, Maathai was beaten and taken to hospital). Eventually the men were released. Maathai started the Green Belt Movement in 1977. In 2002 Kenya finally held free and democratic open elections and Maathai won a seat in the Parliament. I recently bought this product and found to my delight it’s everything it’s said to be. When I first looked at it I thought ’so what’s the big deal, it looks like every other skillet of its type.’ But it’s not! It’s so easy to use. The “non-stick” truly IS. The “easily washable” IS! But the best part is that it conducts heat so very well. The size, by the way, is also perfect. I use it for much more than just sauteing.

nonstick surface is great for omelets, but has enough ’stick’ to brown meats and creat fond. retains heat well and on med heat (electric stove) am able to sear meats and fish if pan has been preheated. there are some crevices where handle attaches to pan and may get icky in the future, otherwise love it. ordered a second one.

I just wanted to add my rating. It is very fun, and I think the best part was that it was like watching a horror movie. I always turned the lights off because it gave me that “spooky” feeling… There is a lot of gameplay.

Customer Review: Disappointing overall
For one thing, the anti-piracy block used on this game made it impossible for me to install it on my computer with Vista, even with loads of tech support, etc. I ended up playing it on a friend’s (older) computer and half the graphics were blurred.

Aside from the technical difficulties, I must admit at times I enjoyed this game for the most part. The problems, though, are too numerous to overlook, and I won’t be playing it again. It’s too slow and plodding as others have pointed out, and I got tired of hearing the same tired phrases over and over “Robert, may I speak to you a moment? I have something I wish to talk to you about?” Substitute the name of any character for “Robert” each time you wanted to inquire of someone. It got monotonous, and there were times I stopped playing it altogether for a week or two.

I wasn’t as disappointed with the ending as some people were. Perhaps, though, I was just glad to get it over with finally.

My husband has been wanting lion statues for our home since we moved over a year ago. We have been looking, but the stones statues are sooo expensive. These look great, even though they aren’t stone. I’m worried we may have a problem with them not being heavy enough, but if we do, I’ll just create a hole in the bottom, fill it up with sand, and close the bottom back. Can’t beat these for the value.
