Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas
For those who never thought Disney would release a film in which Santa Claus is kidnapped and tortured, well, here it is! The full title is Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, which should give you an idea of the tone of this stop-action animated musical/fantasy/horror/comedy. It is based on characters created by Burton, the former Disney animator best known as the director of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and the first two Batman movies. His benignly scary-funny sensibility dominates the story of Halloweentown resident Jack Skellington (voice by Danny Elfman, who also wrote the songs), who stumbles on a bizarre and fascinating alternative universe called … Christmastown! Myst V: End of Ages is the greatest installment of the Myst saga so far, and the best finale I feel ever was written! The plot twisted and turned as well as the classic old-style mystery movies way back when, and the video graphics were top-notch. The writing of the storyline could trick even the sharpest sleuth, and it was a difficult game at times, but not so much so that one is tempted to give up. I truly enjoyed stretching my brain working on this game!

A little disappointing. Great if you want to make most things with heart shapes in it. I didn’t. Good for explaining how you go about putting one together, and a few nice designs. The recipes in the back where odd - a nice idea, and i suppose better than another six pages of a heart shaped patterned trellises. Also a lot of diagrams rather than pictures - Pictures would work better i think - obviously dearer to print though.

Customer Review: Quicken 2008 Home & Business
I have been using the Quicken product for many years so I am familiar with the product function and support available. The product interface has changed again from 2005 to 2008 but that is normal and will take some time getting accustomed to the common functions.

For the first time since I began using Quicken, there were problems with the new product. After three attempts with product support and one phone call, I was able to resolve two of my three problems by loading a 2008 Quicken R6 patch. The third problem should be resolved with a scheduled Quicken maintenance activity this weekend. Overall, I like the product function but was somewhat disappointed with the support effort provided.

In the center of the sky is Orion the hunter, most easily recognizable by the three stars that make up his belt. At the 11:00 position, both Draco the dragon and The Little Dipper can be spotted. The Little Dipper is more visible because the North Star, Polaris, highlights the end of its handle. The North Star used to be positioned within Draco but movement in the skies shifted it over to The Little Dipper over time. In the upper right side of the sky (and the shell), is Canis Major (The Greater Dog), which hosts the brightest star in the sky, Sirius, at a point in the dog’s neck. Right next to Canis Major is Cepheus, a little house with a pointed roof. In the lower right quadrant of the sky, Pegasus—the winged horse—is visible. He is easiest to find by locating the square that makes up the center of his body first. On the south side of the sky (between 6 and 7:00), viewers can see two stick figure people. These are Gemini, the twins. And, finally, the best known constellation—The Big Dipper—can be found at 9:00. This is really two constellations in one as The Big Dipper makes up the tail end of the constellation Ursa Major, the Big Bear.

This little turtle is great for our one 10 week old child. We turn the turtle on at bedtime and he just can’t keep his eyes off all the stars around the room. Blue stars show up best, green a close second and the amber stars are a little fainter. I think it all depends on your paint color on your walls and the amount of ambient light in the room. Good option to have 3 colors, one will fit your decor. 45 minute glow time is good, plenty of time to get to sleep. Great buy, use every night.

Customer Review: Full of Ideas You Can Actually Do
If you are looking for a book on church planting packed with ideas and not just sage advice, you will do well to read Ralph Moore’s Starting a New Church. Recently I met Ed Stetzer from Lifeway Research and we talked at length about church planting. This was the first book he recommended I read on the subject. I can see why. One thing I’m discovering is that every church plant is unique, so finding a book that is relevant to your particular church planting situation is not always that easy. While there are now plenty of books to choose from, it can be difficult to find books that are mostly filled with helpful information rather than antiquated ideas and methods. Ralph Moore certainly knows church planting. This book comes from the pen of one who has done it on several occasions. So the four parts to this book provide a logical progression of stages that seemingly apply to anyone who is planting a church. I will summarize each of these four parts. First, Moore encourages the reader to think through the church plant. In this section he speaks personally to the church planter. Is this truly a calling from God? Are you really ready to do this? Do you know where you want to go with this effort? Do you know where to get help? (Because you will certainly need it.) One great emphasis that Moore makes is the necessity of a church planter having the support of his local church. It does not have to be financial support. But Moore insists that no one should attempt a church plant without clear backing from his own home church. In Part Two, Moore even discusses a procedure for making the proposal of a new church plant to the home church. This section on designing the new church covers such practical areas such as the new church’s values, developing a core team, and funding the new church. When considering funding Moore makes the helpful comment that you need two budgets: an operation budget for covering recurring expenses; and an opportunity budget for those larger expenses that come along at unpredictable times. I note this advice because it is part of a larger philosophy that Moore communicates throughout the book. The goal is not to build an organization that merely “makes budget” every year. The goal is an effective church plant. You do not want to become “a tiny pod of operational expenses and a few people” (p. 92). He advises new churches to keep operational expenses at a minimum so that more can be spent on opportunities. Office space and even meeting facilities are operational costs that most people think of when discussing “church.” Technology and missional opportunities are better places to spend your money, Moore advises. Of course there are many more great ideas in this book that I cannot take time to recount. But in Part Three Moore discusses the actual planting of the new church. It is important to plant a church with a flexible church structure to facilitate growth, and Moore supports the rapid multiplication of churches as the best growth strategy. Thus in Part Four, “Anticipating the Future,” he concludes the book by explaining how every new church should begin their new life as a reproducing church. What I found most refreshing about this book was that it was full of practical advice without giving the impression that Moore was interested in creating businesses. His passion for church planting was clear. But he did not seem to be corrupted by the temptation to seek power in starting a new church. An easy read, yet one that provides a wealth of practical advice, I give this one 4 1/2 stars.
Customer Review: The Voice of Experience
Written by an experienced church planter, this book seeks to motivate and equip others to do the same. The author believes that planting new churches is the best way to evangelize the lost. He has lived this out: the two churches he founded are responsible for planting more than 200 congregations around the world. The author’s methodology is marred in places by a man-centered, “seeker sensitive” approach, and the theology is fairly thin. There is scarce mention of the glory of God, the power of the Holy Spirit, the salvation of the lost or the centrality of the Word. A cult using these same strategies would probably grow. Nevertheless, the author provides many points of practical wisdom that, used critically and grounded in a more robust theology, could prove valuable to prospective church planters

The Invention of Hugo Cabret is one of the best “picture books” and chapter books I have ever read. The drawings in between the story are ingenious. The illustrations give the story a deeper meaning and they take you to a world of complete fascination. They also build up the suspense and give the book life. It really blossoms a picture in your mind that helps follow the story. It is a book about compassion, perseverance and dreams come true. I recommend this book to any age readers and to adults to read to little kids.

I am a 35 tear old female who is getting her Master’s degree in library media and read this book because it was discussed so much in my classes. This is an excellent book. It’s a very fast read becasue of all the pictures, but the pictures add so much to the story…they are the story. I found myself wanting more and more pictures! The story line is very good and keeps the reader interested. Overall, a very unique, interesting book!

Customer Review: A history of continuities
This is perhaps the most pleasurable “academic” history I have come across. Although it provides an extensive account of life in the Chesapeake through the lives and business dealings - and there are plenty of those enumerated - of the tenacious Carroll family, I was also struck by Ronald Hoffman’s major theme of family continuity, of purpose driven by recollection and ambition that the Carrolls had in spades. The very tightly researched accounts of the family history in Ireland, and of all the other families like them in the chaos of the 17th century, is little short of astonishing. I’ll admit to an enduring interest in Irish history, but this one illustrates why Carrolls and others left their broken aristocracy. That continuity touches on my own forebearers, one of whom was a first cousin of Charles Carroll of Carrollton’s. She married another Irish immigrant Marylander and set out in 1796 to populate the then frontier in Kentucky with other Catholics, I am sure at direction of one of their neighbors in Upper Marlborough, MD, Fr. John Carroll, first Catholic bishop in America and also Charles’ first cousin. A great read on many levels.
Customer Review: How to build an Aristocrat?
Traditional patriotism demands that we believe that the founding fathers of America were all great democratic idealist. Although this may have been true for some, many others had no problem with the idea of an elite ruling class, so long as they were considered the elite. Thus the victory over England can be viewed as less of an American Democratic Revolution and more of a power transition from the English crown to the new American aristocracy. A primary example of this American elite class was Maryland representative Charles Carroll of Carrollton. A signer of the American Declaration of Independence, Charles of Carrollton was a wealthy planter and businessman who became such not by his own doings but primarily through the inheritance and molding of his father, Charles Carroll of Annapolis. Ever mindful of his Irish and Catholic roots and the persecution therein by English aristocrats, the elder Charles did everything in his power to equip his son to fend off those who would attempt to cripple him politically and economically. In so doing, the elder Charles created a mindset of elitism within his son. This irony is highlighted by Ronald Hoffman in his book, “Princes of Ireland, Planters of Europe,” in which he examines the Carroll family and traces how a persecuted family from Ireland in 1500 came to be one of the prominent families in America by the time of the American Revolution
